One fact that North Haven Republicans don't want known is that people who follow North Haven politics and have no personal interest in what goes in here feel that a change in government is needed.
The latest is the New Haven Register's editors, who in today's editorial, called for what this blog entry's title says. Read the Register's endorsement of Janet McCarty for yourself. Nothing I could say could add to this outside perspective.

I don't think they would have written that if they thought Kopetz would win.
If you ever needed a reason to vote the Kopetz team out of office, this editorial gives you several.
I would ask the Police to record the conditions of all departments before the election. Make video tapes before the voters speak. This party has been in place for years and things could get ugly.
The ironic part of the register endorsement is that they are not always correct. Two years ago they endorsed Opie in Branford and he lost. They endorsed Borer in West Haven and he lost. And last year they endorsed DeStefano for Governor and he lost. Its only one persons perspective.
Isn't it AMAZING how the "swing vote", the Independents, the ones who are actually going to decide this race, have the least amount of say in day to day North Haven politics. We CAN'T SERVE on any boards and have NO voice in town hall. Yet in actuality, we are the ones who really hold the power on election day. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? Sad,Sad,Sad, to say the least. The Town of North Haven's political landscape is truly a place from "down Alice's rabbit hole"!!! Are there any other independents that are tired of being ignored except on election day?
That elephant . .
I agree that the Register piece is not necessarily a good predictor of the election outcome. But it does present, concisely, some of the key reasons for a clean sweep. All of these have been discussed extensively on Rob's blog.
One suspects that this blog might have had a significant impact. I personally would not have come across much of the key information through any other source. Question for Rob: do you have any idea of how many hits. Or postings?
The existence of this blog makes it impossible for any interested party to say, "I was completely unaware of all of this! At the beginning of this battle, many residents were unaware of the crime, waste, and bad financial management and planning.
And that's the elephant in the room whose existence Mr. Kopetz denies!
While many issues have two, reasonable, "sides", there are not "sides" to the question of whether it's an elephant!
It's an elephant--even if nobody ever does jail time. It's an elephant regardless of the outcomes of pending investigations! Bottom line: the species of the animal has been sufficiently well characterized to know that we it go away.
The town finance board should be comprised on independent members, with no political bias. Maybe the towns best interest would be promoted that way.

Funny how Mike Freda, long time independent voter, registers as a Republican three weeks before he gets appointed to the Board of Finance! Hmmmmmm.... maybe not so funny!
Does anyone REMEMBER Gary Johns (ex-Republican town chairman) getting the Tax Assessor's job with NO EXPERIENCE or QUALIFICATIONS, over the very vocal objections of the Democratic minority? Do you REMEMBER the minority clearly stating that we will still have to use AND PAY FOR the consulting firm that was currently doing the job, while Mr. Johns went out and eventually got his qualifications!(Who knows if he ever did!) Do you REMEMBER the Republicans arrogant and dismissive attitudes and comments towards the Democratic minority's complaints about this totally cronyized decision? Do you REMEMBER Mr.Kopetz and the board giving him the job anyway? How did that make you feel? Did it make you feel GOOD about how your government fills vacancies and spends your money at town hall? Did it not bother you that we(the taxpayers) were going to pay twice for the same service? These are the type of things you need to think about when you decide on election day if it's time to clean house! DO YOU REMEMBER..........!
Beyond me..
I am astounded that there is any support for Kevin Kopetz and group. How can anyone want to keep the status quo of dark and secret government that only benefits and feeds their own insiders at the GREAT expense of most residents? Janet, Steve and their whole team want only to improve our town and restore some integrity and respect to the town hall. To support the current Kopetz group is to say to the entire state 'we tolerate crooks because they are our buddies and we are loyal'... yeah right, loyal lemmings.
There is a lot of support for Mr. Kopetz, I see it in this blog's comments, the local weeklie's Letters to Editor, and lawn signs driving around town. As someone who supports his opponent, though I am an unaffiliated voter, I have a McCarty lawn sign up, wrote a Letter to the weeklies, etc. my biggest fear is the apathy of the North Haven voter. Kopetz's supporters will be out in force voting for him on Tuesday-they don't want to lose their perks, their access (which the normal No. Havener doesn't have), their kid's job opportunity in No. Haven govt. Their fear will send them all to the polls.
My fear is that people in town will think "My vote doesn't count" and won't take the 10 min. to go and vote. McCarty is sincere, and what does she have to lose? Mr. Kopetz and his shady croneys have a LOT to lose if they don't win. Get yourself over to your polling place to vote Tues.-make sure you tell your friends and neighbors to go vote Tues. From past voting history in Town (that I've seen), the bigger the turnout, the better the chance the disgusted will outnumber the loyalists.
"we tolerate crooks cause they are our buddies and we are loyal"
You nailed it Suzie!
A truer statement I don't think has ever been made. Maybe a nice "positive" Republican motto for them to use if reelected?
Would like to comment on how much I enjoyed the NHTV debate. What a great opportunity to see for myself why the independents will vote for Kopetz.
By the way, Money Magazine? Can we get a show of hands how many WORKING people(average taxpayers)in town get MONEY MAGAZINE delivered to their homes!! GIVE ME A BREAK WILL YA!!!! Oh and pass the grey poupon!
P.S. The Farmers Almanac just voted us in the top 100 best places to get FLEECED!!!BAAAAAAH
Let's make us proud once again to say that we live in North Haven. Throw out this crooked & incompetent administration on Election Day.
Money magazine-it must be all they have. The sign near the green where "Anthem congratulates North Haven..." blah, blah...then why are they leaving??? Why doesn't Pratt & Whitney join in too? Oh that's right, they bailed-along with Stop & Shop Distribution...anyone care to count empty storefronts and "For Sale or Lease" signs along Washington Avenue? What happens to the rest when our new 800 unit condo/mall/rail station/hospital and NEW GREEN opens?....shudder...
Seeing as the Tax Assesors job is taken,
I'm thinking about applying for the job of Town Engineer. I don't have an engineering degree, I have no experience as an engineer, and I'm probably not really qualified. But hey,I AM willing to register as a Republican if I can have the job. Where do I get an application?
If not maybe Finance Director? I'm just as unqualified for that position. The town could just PAY a firm to do the job while PAYING me to get qualified! Sound absurd?.... Cause IT IS!! Smarten up Nov. 6 or continue to be a victim. Crooked is as crooked does!!!!!!!
Despite the endorsement from the NH Register, I still have no confidence in Janet McCarty's ability to lead this town either today, tomorrow or anytime in the future. None whatsoever.
To the most recent Anonymous: You may not like it, but Janet McCarty has been leading this town, to the extent it was led in 2007. Without her leadership, contracts would not have been bid out, we wouldn't have phased in the reassessment of property taxes, the first budget, full of lies, would have passed, etc. The only Republican leadership this year has been to oppose a forensic audit (which McCarty demanded) and then give us nothing more than the state had already discovered.
If you prefer having contracts unbid, etc., then come out and say it. But don't dump on McCarty's leadership without recognizing all her leadership has accomplished.
Well then, let's hope that she does win.
Because, if she does not, she has no one to blame but her own performance in this campaign and no other excuses will suffice other than she was not accepted by the majority of the people for the 4th time. I hope for her sake that she does win because if she doesn't, every democrat should conclude that they need to back someone else in the future.
In the event that Ms. McCarty does not win, there should be no excuses or blame accepted or listened to. If the majority of the people do not vote for her, in a year that she should win by a landslide,I personally do not want to hear any discussion about why she did not win but do want to hear a discussion about who the democrats should look to endorse in 2009, and it should not be McCarty if she loses.
A whole line of Democrats are running. If they lose, there's little doubt that McCarty won't run again. But that would be the least of her or the town's problems.
Janet McCarty may not be a smooth politician. However, she is a decent and honest person. Just what North Haven needs now!
