According to an article in today’s New Haven Register, the state Board of Accountancy has expanded its investigation of North Haven’s former auditing firm, Levitsky & Berney, to include three municipalities in addition to West Haven.
Is North Haven one of these three municipalities? If not, it should be. And, according to the article, the Board’s counsel, Rebecca Adams, suggests that each town appoint a contact person for her to deal with throughout the investigation. The first compliance meeting with the auditing firm is scheduled for sometime in December, so this is something that the new First Selectwoman, Janet McCarty, should do.
It cannot be someone from the finance department, because it is overseen by a former Levitsky & Berney auditor (this is a conflict of interest issue, not an accusation; I think the world of Ed Swinkoski). And it should not be anyone who had any responsibility of oversight, such as a Board of Finance member.

Hopefully, our bombastic Town Attorney will advise Janet McCarty to file a law suit against the former accounting firm. This situation reminds me of Sgt. Schultz on the old TV program "Hogan's Heroes".
The press just continues to hammer the GOP in North Haven in every way it can. They are trying to make in look like the people who were arrested hired the questionable accounting firm. Did we just have an audit. The press ruined the town.
Press ruins town????
No, I think it is more that the dishonesty, corruption and cronyism was revealed by the press. It was not that this vile behaviour did not exist, it was the modus operandi for decades in North Haven. And the 'audit' parameters were very well controlled by the republican majority on all boards. Hopefully, we will see a broader investigation by audit. I personally feel the dishonesty and thievery is more widespread than just the 3 people that were arrested. May be that it's too late as the shredders have prob been on full spin since last winter.
Part of the coverup was to hire an accounting firm who would not "rock the boat". Somehow they missed the basics, inherent in any good audit.
The old audit firm probably has liabaility insurance, so why not file a $10 million law suit against them? The taxpayers of North Haven were ripped off for at least that amount over the past 10 years, which should have been uncovered with a honest audit.
Did they use Stevie Wonder to audit North Haven? When he was busy, perhaps Ray Charles stepped in to help.
Oh MY! The poor, poor GOP! The PRESS is ruining them! What will we ever do? How dare they report on actual incidents of wrong doing and poor judgement! The nerve to show the "common folk" how abusive and dismissive they've been to the taxpayers! What will we ever do? We are far too ingnorant to properly process all this information and make a judgement on our own! Next thing is the taxpayers will actually want a say in how things are being done!!MY GOD! Doesn't the press know that the GOP is looking out for the people of North Haven because they're not capable of coming to a sane conclusion on their own! THE POOR, POOR GOP...LOOK WHAT THE PRESS HAS DONE TO THEM!!!!!!
All you have to do is look how the election turned out and you can tell the people of North Haven need a lot of HELP!! I think they have elected to make things much worse in town not better. Take a hard look at the people who are going to be in office now, their past and current actions. I have seen quite a bit on some and when it is brought to light you will be surprised. From spouse abuse to theft, fraud, and more on most of them. It is easy to cast stones just do not be shocked if they land back on you.
Those are serious accusations, Mr. Torello, saying that newly elected officials have committed "spouse abuse to theft, fraud, and more."
No one, to my knowledge, accused any Republican of a crime before the state investigation became public. I suppose the ante has been upped now that the opposition party has changed.
I am just reporting findings from prior court or legal actions from FOI,ETC.Iwould not even think of running for a office with my legal past. What people have done in the past was once just that the past or young and foolish times. I think that is why so few are willing to get involved since everyone is so hungry to slander the other side in the name of victory. I must say that as a long time resident and Taxpayer I was shocked to see how negitive Ms.mccartys mailers were,I saw no Negitive mail from Mr. Kopetz about her but she kept saying it was coming.
