Who would ever have thunk it: North Haven is the winner of a Democracy Cup!
According to an article in today’s Register, North Haven had the largest voter turnout among the state’s medium-sized municipalities (15-35,000 registered voters; we must have barely squeaked in), with a whopping 57.9%.
We actually get to have a trophy, and for two years, a year longer than a winning sports team.
Democracy has truly come to North Haven. We owe ourselves applause, and a few more rounds of democracy for everyone.

I suspect that this blog helped us earn the democracy prize! It did so simply by making the key facts, laws, concepts, and arguments more widely available. This blog was indeed the first direct public debate among concerned residents (versus debates among politicians).
Mr. W must be congratulated for his unwavering persistence. The prospective difficulty of his long-term vision--the real measure of the man--seemed enormous! Let's hear from other visionaries. Or, if your vision still needs polishing, debate some of the issues that are already on the table. [Mr. Freda clearly lost the mud fight, so, as Special Forces suggested earlier, it's time to move on.]
Mr. W has done a tremendous service to this community by creating and maintaining this blog. In addition, his refusal to be bullied by our ill-informed (former) Town Attorney, earned him high marks in my book.
The Democracy Cup is all Janet McCarty's doing. She's the one who went door to door to listen to what people had to say and get them interested in voting.
